Instead I thought I would share with you that I am, in fact, a magnet for some sort of personal injury. (You might not want to read this if you're eating.)
Surprisingly, I have harmed myself relatively little in the past 9 months of being pregnant. I attribute that to being extra vigilant when I'm walking and using sharp objects (at the same time or separately. Both have proven hazardous to my health in the past). But this afternoon I'm off to the doctor, and not the baby doctor. In actuality, my reason for going to the doctor was nothing that was self inflicted, but definitely something that needs to be taken care of before I go into labor. I have something that's infected on my leg. Yes, I know that sounds gross. I don't really know what it is, but it's flaming red, hot to the touch, hard and swollen. I have narrowed my list down to the following: a random boil (I've never had one before, but there's a first time for everything and I am on the downside to 31...), a pimple that's become infected in same way, an ingrown hair, or a bite of some sort. I really hope it's not a bite but our family has experienced a brown recluse bite a few years back, so it wouldn't be the first time. The luck of this is that it somehow came up during the relatively small window that I have between my, now weekly, ob/gyn visits. How lucky is that?! My next appointment is Monday and I really don't think I should wait until then because it hurts to walk and burns when I touch it. Seeing as how it is on the inside part of my leg, it gets touched by my clothing all the time, so I'm not very comfortable at the moment. Though I am 37 weeks pregnant, so that equals discomfort as it is.
I must admit to a little pride though because if I weren't so close to delivery, I would probably wait to go to have this checked out, but my fear is that I'll go into labor tonight and the poor nurses will have to look at that while I'm having my baby. I don't want them to suspect I have a weird disease. I realize that the pain and discomfort should be enough of a motivator to get me to the doctor, but my pride is what won. I'm nothing if not at least a little shallow.
On top of all this, I was sweeping and mopping my kitchen this morning (nesting does not take a break for disease-infested appendages) and I managed to slice the top of my foot open. How did I do this? Well, I have this weird thing where I rub the bottom of one foot on the top of another one (only when I'm shoeless) and it just so happened that I had somehow picked up a small piece of glass in the bottom of one foot and it slid across the top of my other foot and cut it open. The bottoms of my feet are like cardboard, so no, I had no idea there was a piece of glass down there. I know where it came from, Garrett broke a glass a couple of months ago in the kitchen. I've swept and mopped multiple times since then, but somehow this little piece of glass has been laying in wait until today so I could further injure myself. Because that's just the way things work, isn't it?
Here's hoping this thing will be a relatively easy fix. Keith is meeting me at the doctor's office to take Garrett home. We figure he's been witness to enough of my medical experiences in the past 9 months, that he doesn't need a front row seat to a boil lancing.
