Assortment of random stuff

This year has gotten off to a crazy start for our family. Garrett fell earlier this week and busted his chin open which required 3 stitches. We've had 2 nights in a row of our smoke alarms going off randomly (of course around 2 am, never 10 pm). I dropped a glass lid on our kitchen tile. In the middle of all that was Cooper's 6 month check up.

Yes, we're a few weeks behind on his check ups. Our doctor's office switched locations right after he was born, which threw us off with our schedule. He weighs 17 lbs 13 oz and is 28 inches long. When I looked up Garrett's stats at 6 months, Cooper is 1/2 pound heavier and the same length. Which isn't surprising because Cooper still takes his bottles well, but by this point with Garrett we were struggling to get him to take the minimum amount of formula he needed every day. And if you think it wouldn't be hard to get a 6 month old baby to take a bottle, then you've never had to deal with that before. The doctor said Cooper looks great. We need to take him to a pediatric opthamologist to look at his blocked tear duct situation, but other than that, everything is fine.

Garrett says "nuffin" instead of nothing. I know that's really random, but I've been wanting to write that down for awhile now so I wouldn't forget it. He also says "wipe" for white. He can count to 22 (skipping 20 for some reason) and then after that he starts saying 26, 29, 27 and then just picks a number to randomly end with, saying it loudly as if "tada! I counted as high as I can." I wish I could write down his bedtime prayers every night. They always change, but they're always so sincere and sweet. He always starts with "Dear our Father" which is his own doing. I usually say "Dear God" to begin my prayers when I'm praying with him in order to make it as simple as possible. He always prays for everyone in the family, including himself (sometimes also thanking God for his heart or Thomas the Train or his new Wii game.)

He did so GREAT when he got stitches. Not one single tear was shed, he lay very still and chatted with the nurses and the doctor until they were done. He's also done so good with letting us change his bandaid and put medicine on him every day. I know taking that bandaid off hurts, but he still lets us do it.

It is really cold here today and is supposed to be tomorrow as well. Thankfully we don't have to get out in it. Normally Garrett has school on Tuesdays and Thursdays but we've kept him home this week. Mostly because I don't want to have to worry about him with the stitches still in his chin. He's 4. He's a boy. He hasn't seen his friends since before Christmas break. There's bound to be some rowdiness. Let's put it off until there are no stitches holding together a part of him. The stitches come out first thing Monday morning though, so that's exciting! His pediatrician will be doing it. We talked about it at Cooper's check up and he wanted me to just bring him in rather than take him back to the ER which is what the ER doctor said to do. He told me we've officially hit "the age". His son jumped off a table at 3 and a 1/2 and had to get staples in his head. So I'll be thankful this was just stitches.

When I was explaining to Garrett about his regular doctor being the one who would take the stitches out, he was so confused. "My dentist? The ER?" Apparently he doesn't go to his pediatrician enough to remember who he is. I schedule all of Cooper's appointments when Garrett is at school, so the last time he was there was in August for his 4 year check up. He's seen the dentist and the ER since then. haha Here's hoping the ER doesn't happen again. At least not anytime soon.

Somehow in the midst of this crazy week, I'm managed to stick with my new eating habits. Which is totally a God-thing because I am very much a stress eater (and a bored eater). I haven't exercised everyday like I had wanted, but so far I've gotten in 2 days of exercise out of 4 days of my new program, so I'll take that over zero days like before. The weekend will probably be the toughest time for me, but hopefully having stuck to it through some stressful times, the weekend will be a piece of cake (not literally, unfortunately). Can you imagine being on the 1st day of your diet, in the ER, 2 hours after supper time, when you were hungry 2 hours before supper time, not having actually had supper yet, staring down a vending machine full of junk food and money in your pocket that you could spend, and somehow not doing it? I can't, but I somehow did and I have to tell you that felt really good. So here's hoping the scales show my sacrifices come weigh-in time on Monday!

Sounds like our life...I don't think we have had a 'normal' week since Sam was born! There is just always something happening to set it off normal. Hope Garrett feels better soon!
