For whatever reason, Garrett is in a season of comedy.
You know how we all go through seasons: sick seasons, healthy seasons, prosperous seasons, seasons of famine. Well, apparently there's one of comedy and that's where Garrett is. He is constantly telling Knock Knock jokes. Sometimes he gets confused and tells me "Say Knock Knock" so I do, then he says "Who's there?" and I say "I don't know. Who's there? This is your joke, not mine." And we start all over.
The latest one makes me laugh.
Knock Knock
Who's There
Jesus
Jesus who?
Jesus is alive! Jesus is alive! (sung to the tune of that song, if you're familiar with it)
I have no idea where he came up with this joke, but it makes me laugh when he does it.
Another favorite thing of his is to ask me questions about the people singing on the radio when we're in the car. I'm not talking about "What song is this?" I'm talking "What is this man's name? Where does he live?" And if I say "This band is One Republic." He says "No, not the band, the man singing. What's his name?" Then, when I answer (and I do know the answer to that one, but thankfully he hasn't asked the name of the lead singer of The Fray because I don't know that one) he always asks where he lives. I don't know why he cares. My standard answer is "California" because that sounds right. So now he's kind of obsessed with California too.
On the way to school yesterday, he was talking all about California. If you didn't know any better you would think we had just returned home from a trip out there. Or are planning to go soon. I don't know how preschool teachers do it. Seriously. I know, having been a teacher, that kids tell all kinds of stories and you never know really for sure when they're telling the truth, but they're typically interesting. I don't think I even want to know what all Garrett tells his teacher.
He is currently OBSESSED with Toy Story 3 (it comes out in theaters June 18). He sees posters and murals all over the place and is beside himself with knowing that we'll go see it when it comes out. I made the mistake of telling him that it comes out the day after Cooper's birthday, so I'm a little nervous that once Cooper's party comes and goes, he will be chomping at the bit to head to the theater. I would prefer to let it simmer down in the theater for a couple of weeks before rushing out to see it, but I don't think I'll be successful with that one.
He really is wanting a pet. We went to see a friend the other day who is clearing trees on a bunch of land they plan to build on. He told us that he found a coyote with a litter of pups and jokingly asked Garrett if he wanted a coyote puppy. Of course he said yes and was upset when we left without a coyote. Keith was like "That would be cool." And I said "Yeah, then we would become that family who says 'I raised this tiger like one of the family and I have no idea why he suddenly turned on us and bit my face off.'" Keith said "We're talking about a coyote, not a tiger." Potato, potatoe, when it comes down to a family pet.
(And no, we're not getting a coyote. Or a tiger.)
