Random Monday

~On Friday, I took Cooper to the doctor because he was doing the "barking cough". If any of you parents have experienced croup with your kids, then you know what I'm talking about. If your kids have never had croup, then you suck. Kidding, though I'm jealous because it's not all that fun to deal with. Garrett had it many, many times, but he's finally reached the age where it's not a problem for him anymore. Oh the joy that we have another child who will now follow in his croup-footsteps. Cooper not only had the croup but he also had an ear infection that I was unaware of. We caught it early, so that was good. He's been on an antibiotic (for ear infection) and prednisone (for croup). Friday night and Saturday night were exhausting because he was up and down with the cough and just overall not feeling well. Last night, we finally got a good night's sleep. Here's hoping for a healthy week. (Since he was sick, I didn't weigh-in on Friday and have yet to weigh and see what's going on. I'll probably just wait until this Friday to do another weight loss recap.)

~On Friday night before I gave Cooper any sort of Tylenol or Motrin for his ear, I found out that there's been a major recall of most infant Tylenol and Motrin products, along with children's Benedryl. Thankfully after checking the info (which you can do here) I discovered out of the 3 containers of infant Tylenol, 2 infant Motrin, and 1 Children's Benedryl (over 2/3 used up) that we had in our cabinet, only 1 of the Motrin was not recalled. So this is a pretty big deal. Today I went to Walmart to stock up on those meds (and had all the recalled lot numbers written down to insure I didn't buy them). They had completely cleared all the products from the shelves and all that was left were generic brands, so I bought them instead. (I'm OCD about having medicine on hand like this just to be sure we have what we need when someone inevitably spikes a fever in the middle of the night, or has a weird allergic reaction to something random.) There was an employee checking the shelves to be sure everything was cleared and she told me to bring all of my recalled medicines to Customer Service and they would refund my money, including the ones that have already been partially used. (I have 2 boxes that haven't even been opened yet.) So, now you know what to do with your recalled medicines. Don't throw them away, take them back to wherever you bought them and get some sort of refund.

~While grocery shopping at Walmart this morning, Cooper decided it would be fun to start grabbing things out of the cart and throwing them on the ground. That was all well and good (though I explicitly told him "no" after each toss and tried to move things out of his reach-which is impossible when you have an overflowing cart...) but as we were walking out to the car with a cart full of (purchased) groceries, Cooper reaches back, grabs a bag and hurls it into the parking lot. Of course it was the bag with a dozen and a half of eggs. 6 eggs survived the toss.

~Back when the Twilight book series first came out, I remember thinking how crazy people were about these silly books. But when I started hearing about my "normal" friends who were sucked into the Twilight vortex, I got a little curious about them. I happened to be at Target one day and they had the first book in the series on sale, so I bought it on a whim with some birthday money. I fell in love with the book within the first chapter or two and went on to buy the rest of the series and read them all (twice). When "Twilight" came out in the movie theater, I went to see it (by myself. All my "normal", Twilight-loving friends had already seen it and I didn't think Keith would be remotely interested in going with me.) Well, "New Moon" (which is the second movie of the series) came out on video recently and I added it to my Blockbuster queue at random. Last Friday, it happened to show up in the mailbox. Normally I would have just watched it one afternoon during naptime, but since it arrived over the weekend, I thought I would see if Keith wanted to watch it when nothing else was on one evening. He agreed, so I gave him a brief rundown of book #1 so he wouldn't be completely lost (and it's really hard to explain these books briefly without sounding weird, I must admit.) He actually liked it ok and, sadly, became a fan of Jacob. If you've never read these books or watched the movies, then you have no clue what that means. But if you have, I must say that the movie is much more empathetic toward Jacob than the books were, so I can see why he felt that way. He just kept saying "Why would she pick a vampire? I'd much rather hang with a werewolf instead." Men. They don't understand the appeal of Edward, apparently. So maybe I'll actually talk him into going to see movie number 3 when it comes out this summer. Assuming there's nothing else out worth watching, of course.

~And finally, a knock-knock joke from Garrett.
Garrett: Knock knock
Me: Who's there?
Garrett: Leah
Me: Leah who?
Garrett: Leah John
Me: Who's Leah John?
Garrett: I don't know

Garrett's joke was cute. Sounds like K and M's except theirs always include poopoo, butts and farts in them. You'd think I was raising boys! lol
LOVE the Twilight series although I haven't seen the second movie yet. I'll bet Mike would be Jacob fan too.
Sorry to hear about Cooper. I'm guessing he's on the mend now since I'm so behind on commenting. I think I'm one of the sucky people b/c I don't remember either of my girls having the croup--yet!
