Seen and Heard Around the House

Garrett has inherited my klutz gene. Sorry son, but it's true. Last week, he tripped and fell in the driveway, skinning his knee, hand, and elbow. Yesterday, exactly one week after the accident, he fell in the yard, scraping the scabs off his knee and started bleeding all over again. In the midst of all the bleeding and scabbing during the week, I've discovered that Garrett still can't say Band-aid. He says "Bay bay." While I don't encourage this by saying it like he does, I don't correct him. I figure he has plenty of time ahead of him to pronounce it correctly, so I'm going to revel in "bay bay" cuteness for now.

Though Cooper is nearly 11 months old and well capable of holding his own bottle/sippy cup, he still refuses to do this. I usually put a sippy cup of water on the floor with him when he's playing in order to encourage him to figure out the holding and drinking process. On Sunday, I watched him as he drug his sippy cup across the floor, pulled up to the couch, set the cup on its side on the couch cushion and started drinking from it. I have to say if he can figure out how to get around holding his own cup, then he actually does have the ability to do so, he's just choosing not to based on the "baby of the family" principle.

We like "American Idol" at our house. For whatever reason, Garrett has decided that he is a fan of Casey James, a contestant on the show this season. While Keith and I both speak favorably of Casey, we are fans of Lee, another contestant. The other night when Casey was singing, Garrett said "He looks like a mom." I asked him to repeat himself because I wasn't sure I understood him. After he said it again, I asked him what that meant. Casey has long hair and that evening he had his hair in a ponytail, Garrett said "That thing on the back of his head. That makes him look like a mom." Apparently I wear my hair in a ponytail too much.

Garrett's comment is so funny! It's funny how children get the impression over one thing, sometimes, without us even teaching them! I've never taught Katelyn that only girls have long hair and wear earrings but whenever she sees a man with those things she always comments about it.

oh, and one of my single friends LOVES Lee. I have no idea who he is but every time AI comes on she posts on FB about how much she looooooves him. She was like that about David Cook too! You guys have the same taste in AI contestants!
